The cover art for “Theraflu” features a topless woman wearing a fur coat, with her head replaced by a bottle of Theraflu. In the new single, which was released on Wednesday, West raps, “Way too cold, I promise you’ll need some Theraflu… So cold I need Theraflu, I’m so high I need parachutes.”
The Theraflu company was less-than thrilled with the shout out and though they did not threaten a libel lawsuit, they released a statement.
“We in no way endorse or approve of the references or use of the image and likeness of Theraflu in this manner,” A Theraflu Company representative told TMZ.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals also took offense, this time to West’s line, “Tell PETA my mink is draggin’ on the floor.”
“What’s draggin’ on the floor is Kanye’s reputation as a man with no empathy for animals or human beings,” PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews told XXL in a statement. “He’s a great musician but doesn’t seem to have the fashion sense to design anything more than caveman costumes. We keep hoping that one day he’ll find his heart and join evolved style icons – including Russell Simmons, Pink and Natalie Portman – who have dropped animal skins.”
The advocacy group also commented on West’s alleged relationship with Kardashian, who was recently flour-bombed by a PETA representative.
“If a shared obsession for the dead skins of tortured animals is a recipe for love, Kim and Kanye are a match made in heaven,” PETA spokesperson Wendy Wegner told RadarOnline.com.
West, 34, has not commented on the rumors, but “Theraflu” contains the line: “I fell in love with Kim.”
On Friday, Kardashian appeared on NBC’s “Today” show and though she didn’t confirm rumors of a relationship, she did say she liked “Theraflu.” The 31-year-old reality star, who is going through a divorce after a short-lived marriage, attended a screening of “The Hunger Games” with West on Wednesday.
